Slow Down And Recover

Embrace Your Inner Wisdom
Taking a very close look at the body, will reveal a constant habit that is wise to emulate in your life. That habit is the constant rejuvenation and repair that occurs inside of your body at nearly all times. In today’s ‘more is better, faster is greater’ society, so many of us live at a frantic pace that makes time for real restoration hard to come by. However, a close look at our bodies shows that as soon as they get even the slightest opportunity, they engage in consistent repair and reconstruction. Your body replaces the cells lining parts of your digestive system every single week, for example, with brand new cells.
How many of us take the opposite tact? We work hard, push ourselves, try to help everyone else - but we aren’t so quick to do the things that restore our bodies. This is a good time to re-evaluate this practice if this sounds familiar. Chiropractic provides vital self-care, focused on the very core of you, the spine and the nervous system. Having a comprehensive strategy to sustain your body’s regular recovery efforts is key to making sure you are not breaking down over time. Take a tip from your body’s constant repair strategy and put in place your own regular schedule to repair yourself from the efforts of your busy and stressful life. Otherwise, when we don’t listen to the body, it has another habit of its own, to keep on talking to us until we do.
“Don’t Make Your Chiropractor Say ‘Yikes!’”
There’s something about being a chiropractor that, when you walk into a room full of people and introduce yourself, everyone sits up a little straighter, a little taller, and people generally quit slouching and get back into something more closely resembling normal posture.
There is something similar to this pattern that somehow works in the opposite direction. And that is when we travel. Traveling is great because we get to see new lands and new cultures, and get a new perspective on how we live our own life. Traveling can also bring a feeling of anonymity, and even a feeling of less inhibition. How often do we feel like talking to strangers in a new place, compared to when we are busy bustling about our own home town?
But there is another aspect of this that is important to safe, healthy travel, and that is how we use our body. It only takes a few minutes at the airport or the train station to see things that would have every chiropractor cringing at some of the truly worst postural examples you could ever see.
Travelers sleeping upside down in chairs. Strange hybrid positions of sitting and lying down that shouldn’t even be possible. It doesn’t take long to see travelers in every manner of torqued and twisted posture. When you find yourself in unfamiliar territory, take with you what you already know from your chiropractor about healthy posture and self-care so that your body can still feel right at home and well-taken care of when you get back.
